About Me

Hey everyone!

I’m Shaina Cales and welcome to Runner with Reiselust.

I am a runner and fan of alliteration who lived abroad and has an innate love for exploration, hiking, experiencing new cultures, and navigating the unfamiliar. Voila! Runner with Reiselust —German for “desire to travel.”  Its like wanderlust, but with a purpose!

To explain, I started post-college adult life as an Army Officer stationed in Germany. Three years and one deployment later, I moved to Washington, D.C. where I did a stint in The Old Guard, became a veteran, pivoted careers, and earned my Master’s in Public Health. My husband, Jeremy, and our dog/running partner, Bailey drove cross country and settled in Boise, ID in June 2018 acting on a desire to get away from the concrete jungle and move West to mountains and lower humidity.

My running creds include 9 marathons (Boston x3), countless other races, member of the Boise Betties women’s running team, RRCA certified coach, Level I, Nuun Hydration Ambassador, Picky Bars AmBADASSador and master of foam rolling. I believe that anyone can put on a pair of tennis shoes, go for a jog/yog/run or whatever, and surprise the crap out of themselves so beginner runners and not-so-hardcore runners are welcome here!

Join me on this journey as I share my passion and life lessons from five years active duty military service, 18 years of running, and adult life spent on two continents and two coasts, with many adventures to come!
